Most patients who want to improve their appearance don’t necessarily want or need to have plastic surgery. We understand that and whole-heartedly agree. That is one of the “secrets” behind Skin Secrets. Skin Secrets is a department within the Institute, staffed by two estheticians, and a micropigmentation specialist. Their mission is to provide expert skin consultation and advanced skin treatments to our cosmetic patients in consultation with Dr. Smith. Skin Secrets is at the core of our Facial Plastic Surgery Center of Excellence. Ironically, one of the goals of the staff of Skin Secrets is to keep patients from needing plastic surgery by treating their skin to prevent or reverse the aging process that would lead a patient to seek surgical treatment.

Highly trained in skin care and the use of cosmetic products, the staff begins evaluation of each patient with a complete evaluation of the skin and signs of aging. Use of black light technology to highlight premature aging spots and employing the state-of-the-art Canfield Photography Studio for close-up digital photography, complete imaging of the skin allows an in depth skin consultation to be done on each patient. Patients are often quite surprised by the extent of the evaluation that is done by the staff.

Once the skin consultation is complete, recommendations are made for the best course of prevention or correction. A wide variety of products and techniques are available. These include physician injected Botox and filler, laser hair reduction, microdermabrasion, IPL treatment
chemical peels, Aerolase Lazer and Ultherapy to name just a few. More in depth laser treatments by Dr. Smith can be done completely within the Institute with a full operative suite replete with multiple lasers. Some physician laser treatments include the CO2 Laser Lift for deep skin tightening.

Dr. Smith is available by appointment for complete surgical consultations to discuss possible surgical therapy for patients who need or desire facial plastic surgery. Dr. Smith is board-certified in Facial Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Smith is the only facial plastic surgeon with a full-time practice in Lawton. Dr. Smith has been doing general facial plastic surgery for over 20 years. Now with the establishment of the Facial Plastic Surgery Center of Excellence within the Institute and the assistance of the Skin Secrets staff, he is able to make many more procedures available.

The staff of Skin Secrets serve as personal cosmetic patient coordinators through the entire consultative process. If surgery is recommended, all the details of cost, scheduling, and post-op care are handled by the Skin Secrets staff maintaining continuity of care with the staff that the patient has grown to value and trust. Dr. Smith chooses to do his facial cosmetic surgery at the Surgery Center of Lawton where the staff is specially trained to handle the needs of his plastic surgery patients. Expert general anesthesia or IV sedation, is provided based on patient wishes and surgeon’s recommendations.

Unlike some “plastic surgeons” who also do body surgery, Dr. Smith concentrates his expertise in doing cosmetic surgery only on the face. Also, because Dr. Smith has a full-time practice here in Lawton, patients don’t have to wait for their surgeon to make their rounds to this area before receiving needed care. The additional expertise of the esthetician with Skin Secrets also allows patients to have their skin treated over their entire body. We like to refer to this scope of practice as “complete facial cosmetic surgery with skin treatment all over”.
